I primarily grew up in Northern Michigan and consider Onaway to be my hometown. It was always my goal to be able to return to the area and I am glad I can help my community while also being near my family.

I earned my Associate of Arts at North Central Michigan College in 2007. Since I already knew that I wanted to be a Marriage and Family Therapist, I then transferred to Western Michigan University as they offered the exact program I was looking for.  I graduated Magna Cum Laude from W.M.U. with a Bachelor’s of Science with a major in Psychology, and a minor in Sociology in 2009.

I began W.M.U.’s Master’s program in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling in the fall of 2009. I was lucky enough to start their larger, revamped program which was 60 credits and also took additional classes related to substance use and addiction. As part of my program, I completed an on-site practicum, led a disability support group, and completed a yearlong internship at a local non-profit counseling agency. While living in Kalamazoo, I worked in a supervisor position at a crisis hotline center. With this experience I have extensive training in crisis management and suicide prevention.

Immediately after graduating with my Master’s of Arts from the Counseling Education and Counseling Psychology department in April 2012, I returned to Northern Michigan to work for the Northern Michigan Regional Entity. During the years that I was there I primarily provided mental status screens and facilitated referrals for services for Community Mental Health in 13 counties. Briefly before leaving the organization to run my practice full-time, I also provided substance use screens to aid in rehabilitative placement for 21 counties.

It became apparent that many people were unable to obtain mental health services they needed.  At the start of 2014 I opened Marriage and Family Counseling of Northern Michigan, LLC.  Indian River was chosen as it is central to many counties who have been underserved.  Since starting my private practice I have worked with over 500 individuals, couples, and families.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Michigan. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a professional member of the American Counseling Association.  I routinely continue my education through reading, online trainings and attend conferences.

I live with my husband, our two children, and a rather old English Springer Spaniel. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, painting, cooking, watching action and comedy movies, and completing home improvement projects both large and small.
